Save and Restore Your DECserver Configuration

Want to save some time when deploying new DECservers into your environment without having to get into CLI? Did a DECserver's configuration accidentally get altered and you're drawing a blank on CLI commands you'll need to use to restore its clean configuration data? No problem! With a few clicks of your mouse, Access Server Manager's Save & Restore features lets you quickly save & restore each of your DECserver's configuration data.

Saving your DECserver configuration

  1. Launch ASM.
  2. From the Browser window, select the DECserver whose configuration data you want to save and click "Open".
  3. From the Utilities tab of the Access Server Manager window, select "Save and Restore" and click "Do It Now...".
  4. In the Save and Restore dialog box, select the "Save" tab, type the name you are assigning to the saved data in the File Name text box, and click "Save Now". Note: Do not enter a file name extension. The Access Server Manager appends the extension of .cap to the name you enter. A status box will appear displaying the per port progress of saving your server's configuration settings. Once completed, this dialog box will automatically close.
  5. (optional): To confirm that your DECserver's configuration data has been saved, make sure "Save and Restore" is still highlighted in the Utilities tab of the Access Server window and click "Do It Now...".

On the Save tab of the Save and Restore Dialog box, you should see the saved configuration file. To exit this dialog box, simply click "Close". Once you've saved your DECserver's configuration data, you can restore it any time to the original server and to additional DECservers in your network.

Restoring Your DECserver's Configuration Data

  1. Launch ASM.
  2. From the Browser window, select the DECserver whose configuration data you want to save and click "Open".
  3. From the Utilities tab of the Access Server window, select "Save and Restore" and click "Do It Now".
  4. In the Save and Restore dialog box, select the Restore tab, the configuration file you wish to restore, and click "Restore Now".

Note: A status box will appear displaying the per port progress of restoring your server's configuration settings. Once completed, this dialog box will automatically close.

IMPORTANT:The DECserver software version of the target DECserver of a restore operation must be equal to or greater than the saved DECserver. If the target DECserver of a restore operation is running a newer version of the DECserver software than the DECserver from which the data was saved, the restore operation sets default values for any new parameters in the target DECserver that did not exist in the saved DECserver.
