Replacing Cisco with Ruckus Wireless?

Unprecedented 802.11n Wireless Connectivity: Don’t Just Take Our Word For It

Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex

As a reseller of Ruckus Wireless products, we may be perceived as a little biased when it comes to sharing news about their products. Well, we are! Ruckus IS making wireless better: “Wi-Fi that’s Faster. Stronger. Farther. Simply Smarter.” But don’t just take our word for it...

Joanie Wexler, contributing technology writer/editor to Network World and author of Network World’s Wireless Alert Newsletter, recently spoke with Ha Nguyen, network project leader at the Université de Lausanne, near Geneva, Switzerland.

At the university, an existing public LAN utilizing Cisco legacy access points was not able to provide full coverage, supporting 3000 staff, 12,000 students and an increasing demand for mobile connections and Nguyen began to investigate new alternatives.

After Nguyen completed his evaluation, “He has installed a 20-AP testbed of Ruckus Wireless AP's and plans to install 500 to 1,000 this year “because we get more stability in performance” largely due to the antenna-based beamforming capabilities of this particular system.”

“Ruckus offers the world's only dual-band 802.11n enterprise-class AP that concurrently supports spatial multiplexing, automatic interference rejection and dynamic beamforming, delivering ultra-high speed, reliable and long-range client connectivity within challenging RF environments.”

Or, in much simpler terms: “Killer coverage, consistent performance, simple to use at the lowest possible cost.” That’s Ruckus Wireless.

We have found that the Ruckus solution offers far greater wifi coverage and throughput than Cisco.  We have had internal bake offs between the Ruckus 2942 and the Cisco 1100 and found the range to be about 50% greater and the throughput about double.

We have found that in areas that have presented us with coverage problems we are now able to put in a Ruckus solution with less access points.  The ZoneDirector controller is incredibly powerful and intuitive.

Ruckus has become our standard WiFi solution at Fusion Connex.
